Time in the pandemic has felt untraceable. The sky dumped a foot of snow onto our plot of earth and I realized it's not spring, no matter how much green I put in my paintings. Playing with my kids, laying in the glittery snow, looking up at our cold bright sky that's dotted with city buildings so warm inside they seem to be exhaling steam... in all of that, there is a peace that requires nothing except an untraceable now. 2021 / 12x16" / acrylic & textiles on paper / $400

I started this painting looking for Place but unexpectedly discovered a Self. She is tangled into the winds that take her breath and bend her spine into curves. Her abuse gave her masks and scars; her healing gave her fluidity and confidence. I found an image of our sacred Womanhood when all I expected was pleasant facade. As a full time mother of two children, through a pandemic, and into the purchase of our first home, I found myself identifying as “a person that used to paint.” As I began to unpack old dusty art supplies into the marvelous studio space in our new home, I discovered hundreds of 6.5 x 7.5” paper boards. As a gateway back into an activity I still loved, I began to create quick daily pieces on these boards. My rustiness began to chip away as I literally practiced my way back to confidence.
